The Wuhan Institute of New Energy is a zero-carbon, zero-energy building that sets the bar for environmentally friendly structures.
There’s a 450-foot-tall lily in Wuhan, Hubei Province. Well, actually, it’s a skyscraper shaped like a lily, but it’s still pretty impressive. The towering flower houses the Institute of New Energy, a research initiative that opened its doors in June 2016 with the goal of studying energy, emissions, and the technology related to them.
The effort starts with the building itself, which is one of the most energy-efficient structures in the world. With a rain-collecting roof, natural ventilation, a wind turbine, and lots of solar panels, the building sets an example for the institute’s ambitions.
