Mao Zedong’s personal photographer, Hou Bo, dies at age 93
Hou Bo, the personal photographer of the late Chairman Mao Zedong, passed away at the age of 93 in Beijing.
Hou took over 400 of the 700 photographs of Mao that were released during his lifetime. She was the only female photojournalist in Mao’s film crew — but she was chosen, she said, more for her political loyalty than for special skill in photography. Learn more about Hou here.
