‘An American-made Asian movie’: Chinese moviegoers on ‘Crazy Rich Asians’
Crazy Rich Asians, with its majority-Asian cast, was both a critical and commercial success in the U.S. upon its release over the summer. But its reception in mainland China — it debuted on Friday — has been decidedly muted, as it brought home a meager $1.2 million over the weekend. (For comparison, Marvel’s Venom earned $102 million in its opening weekend in China last month.)
