The song of the Taklamakan Desert

The shifting, windswept dunes of the Taklamakan Desert in northwest China emit a sound that has been described as “singing” by travelers. The area is about 124,000 square miles in size, and Marco Polo said visitors to such landscapes will “hear spirits talking.”
