Pearl Shoal Waterfall

Throngs of tourists take in the view at one of the more popular scenic spots in the Jiuzhaigou National Park in Sichuan Province. The waterfall has a drop of 130 feet and is ringed by wooden walkways, staircases and observation decks that become jam-packed with visitors on peak days.

Michael Yamashita is an award-winning photographer who has been shooting for National Geographic magazine for more than 30 years. He specialized in Asia after spending seven years in the region following his graduation from Wesleyan University.
