Looking out over terraced rice fields and wheat paddies from the windows at the Songtsam Tacheng lodge in Yunnan’s northwest corner. The valley, surrounded by snow-clad mountains and watered by the upper reaches of Yangtze River, is considered among the most fertile in Yunnan.
