Fishing in Tianjin's Hai River

Fishermen ply their trade along a popular tourist stretch of the Hai River, which is formed by the confluence of three natural rivers and two sections of the Grand Canal, and links Beijing and Tianjin to the Bohai Sea. In the background is the nearly 400-foot-tall Tianjin Eye ferris wheel, which was built to hover over a bridge.

Michael Yamashita is an award-winning photographer who has been shooting for National Geographic magazine for more than 30 years. He specialized in Asia after spending seven years in the region following his graduation from Wesleyan University.
