After-school ride

Kids are hidden underneath a raincoat on a ride back home when they finish school at a kindergarten in Hekeng Village, Shuyang Town, Fujian Province. The village is well known for its circular earthen buildings called tǔlóu 土楼. Hekeng Tulou Cluster, one of the 46 Fujian Tulou World Heritage Sites, consists of 27 earthen houses with 15 different shapes.

Michael Yamashita is an award-winning photographer who has been shooting for National Geographic magazine for more than 30 years. He specialized in Asia after spending seven years in the region following his graduation from Wesleyan University.
