Looking over the Old Town of Lijiang

The Old Town of Lijiang is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Yunnan Province. It was once a trade center along the Old Tea Horse Road (茶马古道 chá mǎ gǔdào), a network of trade routes connecting villages in the mountains of Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guizhou provinces.

Michael Yamashita is an award-winning photographer who has been shooting for National Geographic magazine for more than 30 years. He specialized in Asia after spending seven years in the region following his graduation from Wesleyan University.
