Locals and tourists roam on a busy street in Hangzhou, known for its picturesque West Lake (西湖 xīhú). In China, a famous proverb says, “上有天堂，下有苏杭,” which means “There’s heaven, and there are Suzhou and Hangzhou,” alluding to the beautiful scenery and pleasing living conditions in both cities.

My name is Ilona Koch. I am 26 years old, a political science student from Germany. I was doing an internship at the German consulate in Shanghai 2016. I fell in love with China and got the most interesting impressions I have ever experienced during any of my travels. Many Germans don’t see the interesting sides of the country. In January 2017 I travelled throughout the country visiting Xi’an, Yanshou, Longsheng, Dali, Lijian and Shangri-La. China is a very diverse country with many different sides. I would love to share with the world these beautiful sides.
