The amazing disappearing foreign minister
...and Barbie in China | July 25, 2023
Dear reader:
The Chinese government has offered no explanation for the disappearance of Foreign Minister Qรญn Gฤng ็งฆๅ, but today announced that he has been replaced by Wรกng Yรฌ ็ๆฏ , who had the job from 2013 until the beginning of this year.
Wang still has the top foreign affairs job in the country as head of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee Foreign Affairs Commission Office.
The Party does not always explain itself, the most likely outcome seems to me that Qin will at some point in the near future be accused and found guilty of discipline violations or corruption. The lack of censorship on social media platforms like Weibo supports this case: If you type Qinโs name into a search box on Weibo for example, the top auto-suggests are for โQin Gangโs wife,โ and โQin Gang Phoenix TVโ (Qin is rumored to have had an extramarital affair with a Phoenix TV news presenter).
Our Word of the Day is: Phoenix TV (ๅคๅฐๅซ่ง fรจnghuรกng wรจishรฌ, which literally means โPhoenix Satellite TVโ).
