China flexes muscles in a military parade

Chinese President Xi Jinping presided over a military parade on Sunday to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Peopleโ€™s Liberation Army (PLA).

The parade comprised 12,000 troops and showed off the countryโ€™s latest military equipment, including devices used by Chinaโ€™s โ€œelectronic countermeasures unit,โ€ tanks, planes, and ballistic missiles.

The parade took place at a dusty training base in Inner Mongolia, 270 miles northwest of Beijing.

About 40 percent of the military hardware displayed had never previously been shown to the public.
