Team China brings an all-white look to the 2018 Winter Olympics opening ceremony. The internet is digging it.
The 2018 Winter Olympics kicked offย on Friday, February 9, with an opening ceremony in PyeongChang, South Korea.
The Chinese Olympic team entered PyeongChang Olympic Stadium with short-track speed skater Zhou Yang ๅจๆด, an Olympic gold medalist, raising the flag ahead of 82 Chinese athletes, the largest cohort sent by the country to a winter Olympics since the Vancouver Games in 2010.
The highlight of the ceremony, in the eyes of Chinese sports fans, was the unconventional attire of the Chinese athletes.
The nearly all-white uniforms, with the exception of a few accessories such as striped scarves and black beanies and shoes, were refreshing, given Chinese sports delegationsโ decades-long unwavering obsession with the red-and-yellow look, a combination of colors apparently inspired by the national flag.
Take a peek at what Chinese athletes wore in the past:
The Chinese delegation at the Rio 2016 Olympics
The Chinese delegation at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea
The Chinese delegation at the London 2012 Olympics
The Chinese delegation at the Beijing 2008 Olympics
And now, the new look…
No one can deny itโs a transformation, and internet users on Chinese social media were thrilled with it.
โFinally! They are not wearing scrambled eggs with tomatoes,โ one commenter wrote, referring to the classic homestyle Chinese dish.
