Suspect caught at Jacky Cheung's concert by facial-recognition technology, again
Someone is apparently not reading the news. Last month, police used facial-recognition cameras to identify and arrest a man at a pop music concert by Jacky Cheung 张学友 in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. On May 5, another suspect was caught by the same technology at another Jacky Cheung concert in Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province, according to Chinese media.
Local police say the man was captured while passing through a security check to enter the venue. After facial-recognition cameras identified the man’s face from a database of suspects, officers at the concert made the arrest.
No further information has been revealed regarding the suspect’s identity.
Jacky Cheung, called the “god of singing” (歌神 gēshén) by his fans, is currently touring China, and many internet users have expressed (in Chinese) that the two arrests are validations of Cheung’s popularity. “These two men went to his concert at the risk of being captured. It seems no one can resist Cheung’s charm under any circumstances,” a Weibo user wrote.
UPDATE, 5/23: It’s happened a third time:
