Aspiring circus performers

China’s Grand Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the longest artificial river in the world, once transported acrobats from Wuqiao County to shows in port towns in Shandong Province. Though the canal is now dry, the circus tradition still exists, with aspiring performers attending schools to learn tumbling, juggling, and contortion.
