Embracing the rain

People in rain ponchos are climbing down Huangshan (黄山) in Anhui Province in eastern China. The mountain is well known for its scenery, sunsets, peculiarly shaped granite peaks, Huangshan pine trees, hot springs, and winter snow. It is a World Heritage Site.

Michael Yamashita is an award-winning photographer who has been shooting for National Geographic magazine for more than 30 years. He specialized in Asia after spending seven years in the region following his graduation from Wesleyan University.
