Preparing for the role

Beijing opera is a traditional form of theatre developed during the middle of the Qing dynasty (1644โ€“1912). It is most recognizable from the distinctive styles of makeup worn by each actor to represent different roles, such as a dignified older man, a lively young woman, a crafty conspirator, or a clown. Countless variations exist, and each performance is infused with music, vocal performance, dance, and acrobatics.
