Raising hairy crabs
Fishermen set up nets to raise hairy crabs in October in Gaoyou, Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, for the Shanghai market β the largest one in China for hairy crab consumption, with an average of about 80,000 to 100,000 metric tons every year, according to the Shanghai Restaurant and Cuisine Association. The hairy crab season usually starts between late September and early October and concludes in mid-December.
