‘Stick men’ at work in Hangzhou
Porters known as “bang-bang” men (the Chinese word for stick) carry heavy loads of bricks on bamboo poles at the Beixinqiao dock in Hangzhou. The laborers were once a mainstay along major rivers in China, but their numbers are dwindling as vehicles take on much of their loads.
