Railway attendants in uniforms set off for their next journey from Guangzhou South railway station in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. The station, which officially started operation in early 2010, is one of the four largest transportation hubs for trains in China. It is expected to transport over 80 million passengers annually by 2020.

Michael Yamashita is an award-winning photographer who has been shooting for National Geographic magazine for more than 30 years. He specialized in Asia after spending seven years in the region following his graduation from Wesleyan University.
