We stand united against anti-Asian hate
This week, there have been yet another two incidents of anti-Asian violence in the U.S. in the news. This is the end of a distressing month for the The China Project community, for Asian Americans, and for the global diaspora of Asians living with prejudice in many countries around the globe.
We stand united with the victims in our condemnation of these crimes of hate.
We also recognize that as a media company, we choose to be part of the solution.
- We recognized the special responsibility of news media in shaping peopleโs perceptions in our letter written after the Atlanta massacre.
- For almost two years, we have maintained our Academic and Policy Sinophobia Tracker, which documents institutional policy and actions that are implicitly or explicitly targeting people based on their Chinese ethnicity.
- Last year, we produced a video about the U.S. Department of Justiceโs โChina Initiativeโ and the often unfair presumption of guilt facing countless scientists and researchers across the U.S. with any form of ties to China.
- We are working on a new video about anti-Asian hate. If you are interested to learn more, please contact josephine@thechinaproject.com.
If youโre concerned and wondering what you can do, our partners at NรผVoices have compiled an excellent directory of resources to fight anti-East and -Southeast Asian racism.
