China approves Ebola vaccine

Caixin reports that the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) has approved a vaccine for Ebola, the contagious virus that killed more than 10,000 people in an outbreak in West Africa in 2014 and 2015. The vaccine was developed by the Bioengineering Institute of the Chinese Academy of Military Medical Sciences and private drugmaker Tianjin CanSino Biotechnology. Caixin says the vaccine is freeze-dried, “which makes it particularly stable during transport.”

In late 2016, Russia approved the first vaccine against Ebola. Global pharma giants Merck, Johnson & Johnson, and GlaxoSmithKline are also developing Ebola vaccines.

Taiwan investigates Singapore gaming company for Tencent link

Sea, a Singapore-based online games and ecommerce business, has raised $1 billion in advance of a New York listing. The Financial Times reports (paywall) that the company is now under investigation in Taiwan over allegations that it did not disclose its links to China — Tencent has a 39.8 percent stake in Sea. About a third of Sea’s revenues are from Taiwan.
