The year 2019 might become when China completely and utterly loses its soft-power mojo.

The latest example: Even the Canadians are feeling uneasy. Jonathan Manthorpe, a foreign affairs columnist and author of Claws of the Panda: Beijing’s Campaign of Influence and Intimidation in Canada, was interviewed by CBC. Among his numerous statements, one of the more amusing is that the Canadian government has sent โ€œa steady stream of useful idiots” as diplomats to engage with China.
