A note from the editor of today's The China Project Access newsletter.

editor's note for Access newsletter

My thoughts today:

If you want distraction from the U.S. elections, Chinaโ€™s financial regulators have a special treat for you:

Yesterday, I notedย that with fintech giant Ant Groupโ€™s IPO coming up on Thursday, Jack Ma (้ฉฌไบ‘ MวŽ Yรบn) and the companyโ€™s CEO and chairman were marched in for an unfriendly interview with four of Chinaโ€™s financial regulators. Today comes the news that Antโ€™s IPO โ€” which was to have been the worldโ€™s largest to date โ€” has been suspended. See our top story below for details.

Our words of the dayย are suspend/postpone IPOย (ๆš‚็ผ“ไธŠๅธ‚ zร nhuวŽn shร ngshรฌ) and actual controllerย (ๅฎž้™…ๆŽงๅˆถไบบ shรญjรฌ kรฒngzhรฌ rรฉn).
