A note from the editor of today's The China Project Access newsletter.

editor's note for Access newsletter

My thoughts today:

Central Chinese state media is reporting on the U.S. election sparingly, and with a sober neutral tone โ€” see, for example, Xinhua News Agencyโ€™s latest reports, in Englishย or Chinese.

But state-owned news organizations that are not considered authoritative sources, like the nationalist tabloid Global Times, are critical and sometimes mocking. See, for example, that newspaperโ€™s big opinion piece today: Election pushes U.S. divide past tipping pointย (in Chinese here).

Our word of the dayย is Trump team’s ballot-counting lawsuit rejected by two statesย (็‰นๆœ—ๆ™ฎๅ›ข้˜Ÿ่ฎก็ฅจ่ฏ‰่ฎผ่ขซไธคๅทž้ฉณๅ›ž tรจlวŽngpว” tuรกnduรฌ jรฌpiร o sรนsรฒng bรจi liวŽng zhลu bรณhuรญ), which is a trending topic on social media platform Weiboย at the time weโ€™re sending this email.
