My thoughts today:

Beijing has a new economic policy buzzword to match โ€œsupply-side reform,โ€ a slogan introduced in 2015ย by Xรญ Jรฌnpรญng ไน ่ฟ‘ๅนณ, which is usually taken to mean the reduction of excess capacity and misallocated investment. The new phrase is โ€œdemand-side reform,โ€ and seems to mean the stimulation of domestic consumption. ย

Caixin saysย that the โ€œgreater focus on demand-side reform comes amid concern that the recovery of domestic consumption has lagged behind the rebound in exports and investment.โ€ The new phrase can be added to the growing lexicon of Xi Jinping economic thought, alongside โ€œdual circulation,โ€ which is also connected to stimulating consumer demand. ย  ย

Our words of the dayย are supply-side structural reformย and demand-side reformย (ไพ›็ป™ไพง็ป“ๆž„ๆ€งๆ”น้ฉ gลngjว cรจ jiรฉgรฒuxรฌng gวŽigรฉ, ้œ€ๆฑ‚ไพงๆ”น้ฉ xลซqiรบ cรจ gวŽigรฉ).
