Editor’s note for Wednesday, December 16, 2020
A note from the editor of today's The China Project Access newsletter.

My thoughts today:
Beijing has a new economic policy buzzword to match โsupply-side reform,โ a slogan introduced in 2015ย by Xรญ Jรฌnpรญng ไน ่ฟๅนณ, which is usually taken to mean the reduction of excess capacity and misallocated investment. The new phrase is โdemand-side reform,โ and seems to mean the stimulation of domestic consumption. ย
Caixin saysย that the โgreater focus on demand-side reform comes amid concern that the recovery of domestic consumption has lagged behind the rebound in exports and investment.โ The new phrase can be added to the growing lexicon of Xi Jinping economic thought, alongside โdual circulation,โ which is also connected to stimulating consumer demand. ย ย
Our words of the dayย are supply-side structural reformย and demand-side reformย (ไพ็ปไพง็ปๆๆงๆน้ฉ gลngjว cรจ jiรฉgรฒuxรฌng gวigรฉ, ้ๆฑไพงๆน้ฉ xลซqiรบ cรจ gวigรฉ).
