Editor’s note for January 20, 2023

A note for Access newsletter readers from Jeremy Goldkorn.

Dear reader,

This will be our last newsletter of the tumultuous Year of the Tiger. (If you have not seen it yet, you can see our review of 2022 from the 20th Party Congress to the end of COVID zero, plus predictions for the year ahead in our annual Red Paper.)

Our first newsletter of the Year of the Rabbit will be in your inbox next Thursday, January 26. Things will be slow next week in China, and our team will be convening to plan out our top priorities for the year to come.

Thank you for your support and interest over the past year. Next year, we plan to bring you more in-depth reporting, articles, videos, podcasts, and interviews that will inform you, and when possible, delight you.

Our phrase of the week is: COVID free and feeling fantastic in the Year of the Rabbit (阳没兔气 yáng méi tù qì).

Investing in The China Project

The China Project has been growing steadily over the years. We’ve added a lot of team members, ramped up our coverage in numerous areas, and launched new data products for China-focused researchers. We have corporate subscriptions with a growing number of companies, governments, universities, and nonprofits. We have a pathway to profitability over the next two years (although we cannot guarantee future performance) and are now raising our next and possibly final round of outside financing. We want you to be a part of it. Through an SEC-registered Reg CF round, we are able to sell shares directly to the public.
