Xí Jìnpíng 习近平 is not a man who shies away from meetings. Fresh from his smiley reception of Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen in Beijing over the weekend, Xi spent today meeting and greeting Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.

The relationship gives China a friend, a comrade-in-rhetoric against the U.S., and an energy supplier. Iran gets financial and political support. But it’s not a match made in heaven, at least for the Iranians.
