Editor’s note for January 18, 2023

A note for Access newsletter readers from Jeremy Goldkorn.

Dear reader,

I want your feedback, maybe not today but in the next couple of weeks:

As you may have noticed yesterday, we have redesigned this newsletter to go with its new name. This is what’s going on:

If you only have one minute to catch up on China news, just read the News Briefing, which is now right at the top. It includes a summary of the top China news story of the day.

A two-minute version of our top story (with links to the full, reported piece) is next, followed by the second biggest thing we published today. It ends with our usual roundup of all the links to other news sources that you need to know about to be highly informed about what is going on in China.

There are plenty of links to our own reporting — as well as the best of the rest — throughout the newsletter. I hope that this format will give you a really convenient way to follow the news you need or want to know, and lots of things to click through if you want to go deeper into any particular subject.

The other thing you should know about (if you don’t already) is that we are now publishing two other daily newsletters. They are both free for now, but in the next month they will both go behind a paywall so that only you, as subscribers, will be able to read them:

  • Tipsheet is a daily business newsletter that goes out before the stock markets open in New York at 9 a.m., and gives you the latest buzz from China’s investing and entrepreneurial community.
  • ChinaVibe is a daily update on Chinese social media, internet culture, fashion, art and other fascinating stuff.

We’ll be fine-tuning all of our formats in the coming days. If you want to see something in Daily Dispatch or any of our other newsletters or articles, or just want to let me know what you think, please reply to this email.
