China and Honduras are deepening ties: Honduran President Xiomara Castro will pay a state visit to China from June 9 to 14 for the first time since her country switched diplomatic recognition from Taiwan to Beijing on March 26. Meanwhile, China opened its new embassy in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, with an inauguration ceremony on June 5. โ€œIt fully shows that to stand for the one-China principle is the right thing to do,โ€ Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wฤng Wรฉnbฤซn ๆฑชๆ–‡ๆ–Œ said at a press conference on June 6.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel to China in the coming weeks, in an effort to stabilize relations after he abruptly canceled a trip in February in response to a suspected Chinese surveillance balloon that flew over the U.S.

China, Pakistan and Iran held their first trilateral meeting on counter terrorism in Beijing on Wednesday. โ€œThe delegations held detailed discussions on the regional security situation, particularly the threat of terrorism faced by the region,โ€ Pakistanโ€™s Foreign Ministry said in a brief statement, while stating they โ€œdecided to institutionalizeโ€ such meetings, with more details to be worked out.

The EU is considering a mandatory ban on member states who have not yet barred companies deemed a security risk โ€” including Chinese telecom giant Huawei โ€” from their 5G networks. Only a third of EU countries bar Huawei from critical parts of the blocโ€™s 5G networks, despite growing concerns in Brussels about their technological over-dependence on countries like China.

Taiwan reported incursions by 37 Chinese military aircraft today. Taiwanโ€™s defense ministry stated that the planes, including J-11 and J-16 fighters as well as nuclear-capable H-6 bombers, were detected in the southwestern corner of its air defense identification zone (ADIZ), the latest mass air incursion by Chinese aircraft. The news comes after China completed a second phase of joint air patrols with Russia over the Western Pacific on June 7, prompting security concerns from Japan and South Korea.
