Editor’s note for Friday, December 4, 2020
A note from the editor of today’s The China Project Access newsletter.
My thoughts today:
“Inside a Xinjiang detention camp” is the title of a new investigative piece by Megha Rajagopalan and Alison Killing, based on interviews with three former detainees of a camp in Zhaosu or Mongolküre County, and “an architectural analysis of satellite photos dating back to 2006, allowed BuzzFeed News to digitally reconstruct the prison to understand its purpose and scope.”
The article is yet another piece of evidence added to a grim and growing body of documentation of abuses in Xinjiang.
Our word of the day is “Ms. Meng Wanzhou is innocent” )孟晚舟女士是无辜的 Mèng Wǎnzhōu nǚshì shì wúgū de). See our top story today for the source.
Upcoming event: On December 10, join The China Project for a webinar featuring the former resident of the Gobi desert, and head of PAG Private Equity, Weijian Shan. He will discuss his new book, Money Games: The Inside Story of How American Dealmakers Saved Korea’s Most Iconic Bank, as well as current market outlooks.
